(1 Reis 19.11-13)

Elias estava a espera de Deus, ele estava desesperado, naquela caverna ele estava sozinho e com o coração agitado. Jezabel queria matá-lo, então ele estava escondido e com medo. Finalmente veio o vento forte, mas não era Deus. Veio o terremoto, mas Deus mais uma vez não estava no terremoto. Depois, houve fogo, mas Deus também não estava ali.

Existem situações da nossa vida que nós fazemos a tão famosa pergunta: Aonde está Deus?

Será que Deus não nos vê quando estamos nas nossas cavernas? Quando estamos sozinhos e angustiados?

Procuramos Deus nas mais longas e bonitas filosofias, nos mais eloquentes discursos, nas orações mais poderosas, nas mágicas e truques. Procuramos Deus nas diversas religiões ou nos lugares mais bonitos. Afinal, achamos que Deus vai estar no fogo, no vento forte ou no terremoto. Deus vai estar em algum lugar muito glorioso, misterioso e bem distante.

Elias encontrou Deus no murmúrio de uma brisa suave (v.12). No meio de tudo aquilo, era na brisa. Era naquilo mais simples e cotidiano. Deus é muito mais simples do que pensamos, Ele não é difícil de se encontrar e muito menos distante. No meio de toda a agitação da nossa vida, dos mais altos barulhos e angústias, Deus está ali. Na brisa. No silêncio da sua alma. A Bíblia diz que Jesus está à porta batendo. Ele está mais perto do que se imagina…

Esqueça todo esse barulho, esqueça o medo, os terremotos, e se concentre naquilo que realmente importa. Escute Jesus batendo a porta e sinta a brisa suave. Entre no seu quarto e fale com Ele. Deus quer ter um relacionamento simples conosco e quer que você entenda que Ele não é distante e que você não precisa procurá-lo em lugares tão complicados. Não espere uma grande mudança para falar com Deus, não espere você ter a vida perfeita para ir a igreja. Não espere o vento forte. Deus é diário, cotidiano e íntimo.

E então, depois da brisa suave, Deus pergunta a Elias: “O que você está fazendo aqui Elias?”

A pergunta era para Elias. Não fique se perguntando aonde está Deus, até porque a grande pergunta é: “Aonde você está?”

Deus está perto. Não se distancie.

Deus é simples. Não complique.

WHISPER

(1 Kings 19.11-13)

Elijah was waiting for God. He was desperate. In that cave, he was alone and his heart was anxious. Jezebel wanted to kill him, so he was hiding and afraid. At last the powerful wind came, but it was not God. The earthquake came, but God wasn’t there too. Then there was fire, but God was not there either.

There are situations in our lives that we ask ourselves the famous question: Where is God?

Can’t He see us in our caves when we’re alone and distressed?

We seek God in the longest and most beautiful philosophies. We seek God in the most eloquent speeches, in the most powerful prayers, in magic and tricks. We seek God in different religions or in the most beautiful places. After all, we think God will be in the fire, in the strong wind or in the earthquake. He will be somewhere very glorious, mysterious and far away.

Elijah found God in a gentle whisper (v.12). In the middle of all that, it was in a whisper. It was the simplest and most ordinary thing. God is much simpler than we think. He is not difficult to reach and He’s not that far. In the midst of all the agitation in our lives, loud noises and anguishes, God is there. In the whisper. He is in the silence of our souls. The Bible says that Jesus is standing at the door and knocking. He’s closer than you think…

Forget all that noise, forget the fear, the earthquakes, and focus on what really matters. Listen to Jesus knocking on the door and feel the gentle whisper. Go into your room and talk to Him. God wants to have a simple relationship with us and wants you to understand that He is not far away and that you do not have to look for Him in such complicated places. Do not expect a big change to talk to God, do not wait until you have the perfect life to go to church. Do not wait for a strong wind. God is daily and intimate.

And then, after the gentle breeze, God asks: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

The question was for Elijah. Do not wonder where God is, for the real question is: ”Where are you?”

God is near. Don’t push Him out.

God is simple. Don’t complicate.
