GIGANTE
Era de madrugada. Ele levantou, deixou seu rebanho, pegou sua carga e foi em direção aos seus irmãos. Exatamente como seu pai havia pedido.
Chegando no acampamento, escutou o barulho e viu todos se posicionando. Encontrou os seus irmãos e enquanto conversava com eles, escutou um desafio vindo de um homem. Ele gritava contra um povo e deixava todos amedrontados. Um gigante filisteu conhecido como: Golias.
Mesmo que você não seja o leitor mais assíduo da Bíblia, todos nós já ouvimos alguma vez a história de Davi e Golias. O menino que venceu o gigante. Pode parecer algo fantasioso para alguns, mas a verdade é que ela se faz real todos os dias nas nossas vidas.
Davi era o caçula. Enquanto ele pastoreava ovelhas, seus irmãos lutavam em guerras. Enquanto Davi estava levando comida, seus irmãos mais velhos estavam posicionados na linha de batalha. Ele não era considerado importante, não era considerado forte e muito menos o mais capaz de sua casa. Era somente um menino ruivo que cuidava muito bem das ovelhas de seu pai.
Mas, naquele instante em que Davi ouviu Golias ameaçando, algo o incomodou. “Quem é esse filisteu incircunciso para desafiar o exército do Deus vivo?” – disse. E pouco tempo depois, Davi estava dizendo ao Rei Saul que iria lutar contra Golias. Claro que o próprio Rei disse ao rapaz que ele não teria condições, mas Davi estava disposto a lutar, afinal, ele sabia que a luta não era dele.
Na nossa vida, nos deparamos com diversos Golias. Encontramos gigantes dentro das nossas próprias casas e em todas as áreas, seja na profissional, sentimental ou espiritual. Às vezes ficamos dias com medo e sendo ameaçados. É difícil lutar contra o gigante do fracasso, da traição, da mentira, do desespero, da baixa auto-estima, da mágoa, do abandono, do abuso… eles parecem tão grandes.
O grande segredo daquele rapaz ruivo era que ele sabia que a luta não era dele. Enquanto os homens olhavam para armaduras e tamanho, ele olhava para o alto e já sabia da sua vitória. Com cinco pedras lisas e com um atirador, ele se aproximou do gigante.
Pensamos que vamos vencer o gigante com armas, mas o importante não é o que temos nas nossas mãos, mas sim o que Deus pode fazer com elas. Davi podia ter somente cinco pedras, mas Deus tinha sua vitória.
Davi pegou seu atirador e com uma pedra atingiu Golias na testa. O Gigante caiu.
Quando tudo estiver complicado, tenha coragem, mesmo que todos a sua volta estejam com medo. Quando achar que não tem como, faça aquilo que está ao seu alcance. Quando tudo parecer grande, lembre-se daquele que é maior. A nossa função é continuar lutando, mas a vitória vem de Deus. Não sei como, quando e nem onde, mas tenha fé. O Gigante vai cair.
“Todos que estão aqui saberão que não é por espada ou por lança que o Senhor concede vitória; pois a batalha é do Senhor…” (1 Samuel 17.47)
GIANT
He had just got up, it still was morning. He left his flock, took his load and went out to meet his brothers just as his father asked.
Arriving at the camp, he heard a noise and saw everyone standing. He went to meet his brothers and while talking to them, he heard a man challenging his people. He kept shouting and scaring them off. He was a Philistine giant known as Goliath.
Even if you are not the most assiduous reader of the Bible, we all have heard the story of David and Goliath at some point in our lives. It’s the famous story of the boy who beat the giant. It may sound like a bedtime story for some, but the truth is that it becomes real every day in our lives.
David was the youngest. While he was shepherding sheep, his brothers were fighting wars. While David was carrying food, his older brothers were positioned on the battle line. He was not considered important, he was not considered strong, let alone the most capable of his house. He was just a redheaded boy who took good care of his father’s sheep.
But when David heard Goliath’s threat, something bothered him. “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine to defy the army of the living God?”, he said. Not very long after, David was telling King Saul that he would fight Goliath. Of course, the King told the boy that he would not be able to, but David was willing to fight, after all, he knew that the fight was not his.
In our life, we come across several Goliaths. We find giants within our own homes and in all areas, whether professional, sentimental or spiritual. Sometimes we get scared and feel threatened. It’s difficult to fight against the giant of failure, betrayal, lies, despair, low self-esteem, hurt, abandonment, abuse … they seem so overwhelming.
The big secret of that redheaded boy was that he knew the fight was not his. While men were looking at armor and size, he was looking up and was certain of his victory. With five smooth stones and a sling, he approached the giant.
We think we’re going to beat the giant with weapons, but what matters the most is not what we have in hands, but what God can do with them. David might have only had five stones, but God owned his victory.
David took his sling and struck Goliath with a stone on his forehead. The Giant fell.
When things are complicated, have courage, even if everyone around you is afraid. When you think you can not do it, do what is within your reach. When everything seems too great, remember the one who is greater than all. Our role is to keep fighting, but victory comes from God. I do not know how, when and where, but have faith. The Giant will fall.
“All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s” (1 Samuel 17:47)
